Boualem Snaoui, a pro-Palestinian activist, was arrested in Montmagny (northern France) for posting anti-Israel slogans on the election posters of Rene Taieb, a local Jewish leader and Socialist Party candidate.
Snaoui is being charged with inciting hatred against a racial and religious group.
